Yogurt

Yogurt is a modern gourmand note that gives a perfume a creamy, slightly tangy, milky character. It belongs to the family of lactonic notes, named after lactones, the aroma molecules that smell of milk, cream and ripe peach skin.

What yogurt smells like

A yogurt note is softer and less sweet than vanilla or caramel. It smells like plain cultured milk: smooth and comforting, with a faint sourness that keeps the creaminess fresh instead of heavy.

Where you will find it

Yogurt notes turn up in milky gourmands, rice and almond fragrances, and fruity scents built around peach, fig or berries, where the tang works the way it does in a real fruit yogurt. Perfumers recreate it with lactones and other dairy-like aroma materials; no extract of actual yogurt is used.

How to choose

Yogurt perfumes suit people who like skin-close, cosy scents and find sugary gourmands too much. They are usually unisex and wear best in cool weather, when the milky warmth has room to develop.
